چکیده

When an oil-in-water emulsion is utilized for application in a flat-fan spray, micrometer-sized oil droplets are thought to facilitate hole formation on the spray lamella, leading earlier breakup of sheet and increase resulting droplet sizes. However, prior work has largely focused changes mean or median size, not examined influence emulsions complete size distribution, as well other properties such shape velocity distributions flat fan sprays. This study concerns effects pressure, spatial location, eccentricity, distributions, all which crucial information determining dispersion dynamics during applications. Experiments were conducted with TP6515 nozzle, abovementioned measured using digital inline holography (DIH). Results show that DIH-inferred volumetric (VDSD) span widely from sub-100 ?m over 2 mm size. The results suppression smaller droplets, while VDSD relatively insensitive increasing volume fraction beyond critical level. DIH consistent observation ligaments observed only regions single-phase water sprays, break up more violently than larger ligaments. It these suppressed emulsion, yield sub-millimeter some sizes approaching dimensions, corresponding driftable agricultural settings. Interestingly, generally decreases eccentricity significantly at center edge fan. We attribute this decrease lamella thickness thus characteristic shrinkage rates, observations high speed shadowgraphs. In instances, have higher velocities equivalent sized droplets. action process reduced surface energy generation (larger droplets), dissipation emulsions, increased translational after process. Therefore, it appears simultaneously suppresses small increases velocity, hence penetration application.

Combustion of Water-in-Oil Emulsion Layers Supported on Water

In situ combustion of a water-in-oil emulsion layer supported on water is a complex process. In this paper, the combustion process of water-in-oil emulsion layers floating on top of a water body, as in the case of in situ burning of oil spilled at sea that has turned into emulsion, is modeled by using comprehensive mathematical treatment, and the results are compared with data obtained in our l...

Single-molecule enzymology of chymotrypsin using water-in-oil emulsion.

Single-molecule studies allow the study of subtle activity differences due to local folding in proteins, but are time consuming and difficult because only a few molecules are observed in one experiment. We developed an assay where we can simultaneously measure the activity of hundreds of individual molecules. The assay utilizes a synthetic chymotrypsin substrate that is nonfluorescent before cl...

Enhanced Acoustic Separation of Oil-Water Emulsion in Resonant Cavities

This paper explores the use of acoustics for the recovery of oil in oil-water emulsions. A series of experimental studies were conducted using acoustic standing waves in resonant cavities as means of trapping oil droplets and enhancing oil separation. Several cavity configurations were explored and the frequency range used was between 1 MHz-2 MHz. Oil-water emulsions studied were made using min...
